Friends and family of the iconic Kwaito legend, Victor Bogopane, best known by his stage name Doc Shebelza will soon have the opportunity to say their final goodbyes to the late musician.

This comes as a memorial service is set to be held in his honour where his loved ones will have a chance to reflect on their fondest memories with the musician. The service will be held at the SABC Radio park, M1 Studios in Johannesburg at 3pm.

Doc Shebeleza who hailed from Soweto passed away at his home last week, at the age of 51 after fighting an illness. Prior to his passing, the Ingagara hitmaker underwent surgery in December 2024 and was scheduled for another one soon.

Speaking to Sunday World before Doc’s death, his mother Agnes Mashego-Bogopane said: “The doctors have taken his blood and ran a battery of tests. And they told him thereafter that he should undergo another major operation to save his life.”

The beloved artist made a notable breakthrough in the music industry with his debut album titled Shebeleza in 1995 where he featured hits like Ghets Ghetsa. This release was followed by S’kumfete with a hit of the same name.

After successful albums, Doc released three more albums titled Tiger, Ebumnandini and Jiva Yoyo. During his music career, he was honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2018, at Mzansi Kwaito and House Music Awards.

Meanwhile music icon, Winne Khumalo’s legacy and life will also be remembered on Wednesday at Market Theatre, at 2pm until 4pm.
