The fans of Mzansi Magic’s telenovela, Gqeberha: The Empire are reeling as the popular telenovela concludes its second and final season on Friday.

Set in Gqeberha, Eastern Cape, the show follows the powerful family – the Mxenge’s as they navigate love, power and betrayal. The Tshedza pictures-produced telenovela which premiered in January 2023 followed themes such as dynasty, betrayal, polygamy and jealousy.

Gqeberha: The Empire had a star-studded cast that included Bongile Mantsai, Zandile Msutwana, Anele Matoti and Unathi Guma.

Local Entertainment Channels at M-Net, Shirley Adonisi lauded the team behind the series and expressed deep gratitude to the Eastern Cape Provincial Government for their crucial support, which has helped the production flourish.

“We extend our heartfelt thanks to the producers, cast and crew of Gqeberha: The Empire. Their unwavering dedication and exceptional talent have delivered spellbinding storylines in one of the most fiercely competitive primetime slots. As we approach the grand finale, we eagerly anticipate witnessing the culmination of this extraordinary journey,” she said.

Entertainment commentator, Jabulani Macdonald took to his X (formerly Twitter) page to share the final spoiler alert of the show.

The telenovela is set to wrap up on the 10th of January.

As the finale nears, X users have this to say:

I’m so sad we only have 5 eps left of #GqeberhaTheEmpire. What production did to S2 was nothing short of diabolical. The Makwethus deserve their own dramedy spinoff with occasional apps from the other cast members. This brilliant cast deserved so much better. Iyabulela ilali ❤

I ENJOYED Zimkhitha’s character the most on this show. The theatrics, sarcasm, scheming, always losing but never giving up? Best acting. Zandile showed up for EVERY scene! ???? #GqeberhaTheEmpire
