The past few seasons have seen Pretoria-based super-club Mamelodi Sundowns go on an upward trajectory and have become one of the more dominant teams in the PSL and the continent as a whole. The ‘Brazilians’ have qualified and look forward to participating in next year’s FIFA Club World Cup.

The Club World Cup is an international soccer competition that sees a total of 32 clubs from across the world coming together to compete for the title of world club champions. The upcoming competition is set to take on a new format this time around and will be held every four years, and will be held at in the United States.

Masandawana will be among 4 African teams to take the stage alongside Egypt’s Al Ahly, which comes as no surprise as they are the current CAF champions, Tunisia’s ES Tunis and Morocco’s Wydad. Teams currently wait impatiently to find out which groups they will fall under.

Despite achieving this impressive milestone, it appears some fans are not confident with the Sundowns’ odds on the big stage, citing concerns with the coaching. According to these users, Masandawana would have faired well had they still been under the leadership of former coach Rhulani Mokwena who will also be present with his team Wyadad.

Nah it’s not ,it’s going there to embarrass the whole country, now the whole world will think South Africa doesn’t play soccer

With Rhulani they would have stood a slight chance but with plumbler Manqoba they don’t stand a chance

Contrarily, Minister Gayton McKenzie showed great excitement and anticipation for the South African club as congratulated their achievement via his X(formerly Twitter).
