Grammy-award-winning group founder of Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Joseph Shabalala’s family is still at war over his estate.

The founder of the renowned choral group passed away in 2020 at age 78 after falling ill at a Pretoria hospital.

According to news publication, TshisaLIVE, the group had been on tour during his passing but was later informed, adding that, Joseph’s death was due to years of his health deteriorating which caused him to leave the group in 2014.

The above-mentioned source also mentioned that in 2017, the founder’s health was not good after having spinal surgery.

Four years since his passing, it has been alleged that Joseph’s children and family members are fighting over his estate.

As per reports by entertainment hub, ZiMoja, the founder’s oldest son, Nkosinathi has made claims that one of his siblings is guilty of forging his late dad’s signature in official documents about his estate.

During an interview with the above-mentioned source, Nkosinathi said, “After our father’s passing, I made it a priority to locate his will,” adding, “I presented the will to my brothers, but they initially ignored me. Only when I consulted a lawyer did they suggest using the same lawyer to investigate the matter of inheritance.”

He further explained that despite showing his siblings these documents and being ignored he discovered that there was a forged signature in one of the documents.

Despite Joseph’s departure in 2014 the group continued signing and getting gigs locally and internationally where his four sons Sibongiseni, Thamsanqa, Thulani and Msizi Shabalala alongside its original members.
