Professor Mamokgethi Phakeng is known for her resolute nature and unwavering ability to defend and protect her beliefs. Despite recently becoming involved in controversy, she has expressed that she will be doing something unusual but admirable in honour of her 58th birthday this year.

Taking to her social media, the somewhat controversial professor expressed her appreciation for life as she acknowledges being “blessed beyond measure”, whether it is materialistic items or financial security. She urges those who were considering buying her a birthday gift to instead pay it forward to someone more in need as it would be selfish of her accept more gifts.

“In that spirit, rather than getting me a gift, kindly redirect that thoughtfulness towards the next person. The best gift for me would be seeing what you did for someone else, no matter how small, as long as it is an expression of love or kindness. I would consider it the best gift of my life because you would have contributed to a kinder world in my name. It could be a meal, a word of encouragement, money, a hug, or even just the acknowledgment that they are seen and valued,” her lengthy post reads.

This selfless act from prof Phakeng further reiterates her stance on advocacy and walking the talk, despite facing criticism regarding her hypocrisy and supporting Chris Brown, a known alleged perpetrator, although claiming to be against GBV.

Impressed by Phakeng’s selflessness and maturity, internet users have started availing themselves to those who were considering getting the Prof a gift, with some going as far as specifying the exact gift they would appreciate the most.

Happy birthday in advance Prof 🥳🥳
