When it comes to the state of modern football in South Africa, Dr. Kaizer Motuang is one man who has done an exceptional job in growing the sport to national popularity in our country.
South African football giants Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates have recently taken to their social media platforms to celebrate one of football in the country’s biggest innovators, Kaizer Motuang on what was his 80th birthday.
Taking to Instagram Kaizer Chiefs wrote:
“Today is the day, the day to celebrate and honour an icon, our chairman, our father.”
“Few words can describe the magnitude of this day, few words can describe the man himself. He is a powerhouse behind the biggest sporting brand in S.A history, the stability of the foundation upon which we stand. He epitomises the strength of the Amakhosi nation, his longevity is our future.”
Concluding the post, they wrote: “Happy Birthday Dr.Motaung, we love and honour you!”

The 80-year-old veteran who played for Orlando Pirates at under 16 level is the founder of the club’s arch rivals Kaizer Chiefs.
After spending years in the game, last year Kaizer was inducted into the South African Hall of Fame where he was honoured alongside several other inductees such as the late Nelson Mandela and rugby’s Joost van der Westhuizen.
Following the event, he later hinted that he would be taking a step back from operational duties with Amakhosi, and would be handing duties over to his son Kaizer Motuang Jr.
Speaking at a dinner in which many of the former legends were present he revealed he was certain that the club would be in good hands and supports those who would run the show going forward.
“I can only stand by the wayside and support them in whatever way they would like to go,” he revealed.
