One of the world’s largest fashion events, MET GALA has officially announced its 2025 theme.

The 2025 theme,  Superfine: Tailoring Black Style is set to celebrate black excellence in fashion. According to fashion hub, Marie Claire, renowned fashion Vogue editor-in-chief Anne Wintour alongside co-chairs: Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, and Pharrell Williams, with LeBron James being the honourary chair.

Over the years, all of these men have been known to excel in their respective fields, some known as the fashion gods of their time.

Vogue US states that this theme originated from a 2009 book called, “Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity”, which according to the fashion hub depicts the connection of both aesthetics and their political era during their time.

Describing the Superfine theme, Professor of Africana Studies at Columbia University Monica Miller, said, “Black dandyism is a strategy and a tool to rethink identity, to reimagine the self in a different context. To push a boundary—especially during the time of enslavement, to push a boundary on who and what counts as human, even.”

She adds that the theme depicts the black transformation within the community from slave times to current times where they are stunning in luxurious items.

The theme for the 2025 Met Gala will be ‘Superfine: Tailoring Black Style’ — based on the style of Black men throughout history.
