Have you ever wondered why some people have birthmarks and others do not? When it comes to yourself, you often associate it with health issues and ask, is there perhaps something wrong with you or are you lacking in anything?
According to the Cleveland Clinic, “A birthmark is a mark on your skin that looks different from the skin around it. Birthmarks come in many different shapes and sizes.”
The above clinic also states that a birthmark’s characteristics include, an elevated or levelled spot on your body. The mark ranges in size from that of a pinhead to your fist and is not the same colour as the surrounding skin (pink, red, purple, tan, brown, or black).
Below are reasons provided by health experts as to why you do not have a birthmark:
The above clinic claims, “Vascular birthmarks are made of blood vessels that didn’t form as expected during fetal development.”
The health-focused publication Healthline states that an increase in the skin’s darker pigmentation is the cause of pigmented birthmarks. This may be the result of the clumping of melanocytes, which are cells that produce melanin, or an increase in pigment (melanin) in the area.
The majority of birthmarks are not inherited. In other words, you usually don’t get them from your parents. Certain birthmarks, however, may occasionally result from a genetic flaw that runs in your family, the above health publication added.
The above health hub also claims, “Not having a birthmark isn’t a sign of a particular health condition or a cause for concern.”
