The ongoing debate of showers versus baths is undoubtedly one to look into. While there are generally no issues with taking a bath, showers are a popular choice because of their unique benefits.
The health-focused publication, Healthline claims, “Showers are cleaner than baths. If your priority is finding a way to thoroughly cleanse your entire body, a shower is the way to go.”
The above health hub also states that showers minimize aching muscles, wake you up, and soothe irritable skin.
Here is a closer look at the reasons why taking a shower rather than bathing could be a better choice:
According to Rachel Nazarian, a dermatologist at the Schweiger Dermatology Group, “Showers expose the body to less water than a bath. Too much water, like during a bath or a long shower, can strip the skin of natural oils. This can cause the skin’s surface to break down, leading to irritation and inflammation.”
Niket Sonpal, an internist claims, “Showers are usually better for cleansing your body and getting rid of bacteria and dirt.”
A hot shower can also relieve migraines and headaches, wash away toxins, and “can improve circulation because the running water causes blood to rush to the skin’s surface,” the above expert further adds.
According to another board-certified dermatologist, Amy Wechsler, “Showers are much more convenient and efficient.” You can wash your soaps and hair products on and off more easily and don’t have to wait for the tub to fill up.”
