It is no secret that South Africa is a sports nation, and the impact of sports in our country cannot be stated enough. Whether it’s soccer, rugby, swimming or cricket, South Africa will find a way to not only compete but excel at all times.

As of late, the Springboks have played an important role in uniting the nation, and providing a great deal of entertainment while doing so, dubbing Mzansi as a rugby nation. Although it is true, deep down Mzansi has also always been a football nation at heart, and SuperSport has announced that they have partnered with Showmax to bring accessibility to the PSL at a more affordable rate.

The news comes shortly after the league was left in limbo, without a sponsor for a short while due to financial constraints experienced by the previous sponsors DSTV, and Betway emerged as the eventual sponsors.

“This is a game-changer for South African football. Bringing Premier Soccer League football to Showmax is a huge win for the PSL and our supporters. This partnership opens new doors for fans to enjoy the sport they love, wherever they are,” said PSL Acting CEO, Mato Madlala.

This move by all parties involved is an important one, as the conversation regarding accessibility and inclusion in sports is still an ongoing one. Similarly, with the rugby ticket prices in Cape Town, less well-off communities are often priced out of enjoying sports events, which should not be the case.

According to Showmax, viewers will now be able to watch all PSL games at no additional cost to Showmax subscribers. This means viewers will only be paying R69 monthly for an opportunity to watch 380 games, including major tournaments such as the MTN 8 and Nedbank Cup.

Match days will no longer be the same as the people now have access like never before. Showmax subscribers can now watch matches from anywhere, with the greatest of ease.
