Approximately 10 years ago, South Africa was introduced to Isibaya, an Mzansi Magic original drama that initially followed the story of two young lovers who are torn apart by a generational feud between their families. The show has since become a household name in the country, even after production the show has long come to a close.

Paying homage to the legendary show, Sphelele Wandile, King Nobu and Thobelani Mdletshe, a group of TikTok content creators shared their own interpretation of a popular scene between Ndlovu, Nkabinde and Mgijimi, who were prominent characters in the show.

Shocked by the uncanny resemblance each TikToker had to the original characters, internet users took to the comments to check whether they were all seeing the same thing.

This video, and many more just like it have given us much to consider when it comes to the direction that film is taking. Content creators have proven time after time that they can produce great quality entertainment with minimal resources and knowledge, which begs the question, how far would these talented youngsters go with guidance from bigger entities and organisations?

Furthermore, it would surely be in the film industry’s best interest to invest in these content creators as they have shown great talent and potential, making the most of small platforms with the potential to blow up, such as TikTok. Sphelele Wandile is one of the upcoming talents who has been able to turn some heads with the wide variety of content he produces consistently.
