South African singer and record producer King Monada, whose real name is Khutso Steven Kgatle, is once again facing legal trouble.
The popular Limpopo-born musician, known for his chart-topping hits, has been taken to court for allegedly failing to appear at a paid gig.
Prominent promoter Eric Thoka obtained a legal summons, accusing King Monada of refusing to refund him after failing to perform at a festival scheduled for New Year’s Day, as reported by The South African.
Thoka claims that despite Monada being paid, the artist failed to show up and has not offered compensation for his absence.
This is not the first time King Monada has been embroiled in controversy surrounding his performances.
In 2022, the singer was booked to perform at the Limpopo Legends Awards (Lilas) but did not appear despite reportedly receiving an advance payment, according to The Citizen.
Additionally, Monada was expected to promote the event, but he neglected that responsibility as well.
Initially, after being served legal papers through his attorneys, Monada promised to attend the next Lilas event in 2023. However, sources confirm that he failed to follow through, once again disappointing fans and organisers alike.
Limpopo Arts Movement (Lam) chairperson, Mphoza Mashabela, publicly condemned King Monada’s behaviour, stating that the artist “displayed a high level of arrogance and rudeness.” Mashabela also accused Monada of deceit.
Despite these legal challenges, King Monada remains an influential figure in South Africa’s music industry.
He rose to prominence with his massive hits “Ska Bhora Moreki” in 2016 and “Malwedhe” in 2018, the latter propelling him to national fame.
However, his repeated absences from contracted events are increasingly tarnishing his public image.
