Durban-born Palesa Nomthandazo Phumelele Modiga, is a contemporary jazz singer and songwriter, who, professionally goes by Zoe Modiga. Coming onto the music scene as a contestant on the popular competition show The Voice South Africa with her rendition of Hozier’s ‘Take Me to church’.
Since then, she has successfully released three studio albums, with ‘Ingenekwane‘ debuting at number one globally and ‘Yellow: The Novel earning multiple SAMA nominations. Next on her agenda, is her Nzalabantu concerts, with the next venue being Cape Town. Her sound is powerful, blending jazz composition with African storytelling and a hint of Motown soul, which resonates deeply with her local audience while captivating those unfamiliar with the sound.
Taking to her Instagram, the classically trained artist revealed that she will be heading to the mother city in October. “Nzal’abantu. Mother City, Cape Town, are you ready to get on the Mothership with us?” she asks her fans.

“We started off our Nzalabantu: Mother of the Nation series at the prestigious Market Theatre, Dr John Kani stage to such a beautiful, loving Joburg crowd and now we’re so excited to be coming to the Star Theatre which has become like family…we are ready to celebrate with you,” an excited Zoe addresses her fans.
Lovers of live music will not want to miss this show as Zoe has gained a notable reputation for her performances, with her palpable passion and captivating stage presence. Zoe has openly shared that she has drawn inspiration from strong, powerful women such as Nina Simone, Eunice Waymon and Letta Mbuli, and it is quite evident in her artistry.
