Internet users react to young women reciting the late poet and activist Dr Bishop Jessica Mbangeni As’phelenga poem.

Just days after Jessica’s passing had been announced on social media after suffering from a short illness, a young TikTok creator from Gqeberha, Eastern Cape went up the username @simomoza15 on the app reciting the poet’s words on the popular song.

The As’phelenga song was released by musician Vusi Nova in 2018 featuring the late poet as a remembrance of artists the country has lost throughout the years. The meaning of the song translates to one saying that since people have died we are not the same as we still need them in our lives.

Speaking to news publication, DailySun, on Jessica’s sudden passing, Sibusiso Mbangeni said, “She had been fluish in less than a space of a month. We’re still waiting on the results that will give us a clear view of what happened. What I can say is she was in and out of doctors’ rooms and when she went back to the doctor the last time, they said she was not good and had to be hospitalised. Unfortunately, she died. She died in her birthday month.”

After gaining massive popularity the young poet asked internet users for donations as some users suggested that she go to the funeral and recite the same words bestowed by the late poet.

One user said: “Vusi Nova should see this and collaborate with you on the song.”

Another user asked if it was possible to invite the lady to the funeral.
