South African reality TV star and businesswoman Shauwn “MaMkhize” Mkhize has found herself at the centre of trending topics. In a recent interview with NCA Shauwn admitted to having worked with the so-called “construction mafia,” a group notorious for their violent tactics and intimidation methods used to extort money from businesses within the public works sector.

The revelation came to light through a post by user @Bathandwa95 on X (formerly Twitter), where Shauwn discussed her connections with the construction mafia.

Shauwn admitted working with construction mafias, saying it’s important to collaborate with them. She explained that, after 20 years in the industry, she understands their needs and has worked with them without problems. Shauwn believes in listening to and negotiating with these groups instead of treating them as enemies.

“As much as there are construction mafias, it is very important to collaborate. I’ve been in the industry for more than 20 years, with the construction mafia involved. But what I do is I sit down [..]You need to understand what they need, and you collaborate. I’ve done it.[..]They’ve never given me problems. We must look at them as enemies.”

On X (formerly Twitter), users reacted strongly to Shauwn’s comments One user remarked,” Sana, you collaborate with extortionists and you call them ‘business forums’.”

Another user questioned,” Collaborate with criminals?”

Meanwhile, a different user defended Shauwn’s perspective, stating, “She is right!!!!!!!! Construction Mafias means BLACK PEOPLE with small registered companies who are trying to build up their construction companies and careers, but the red tape blocks them.”
