This weekend South Africa celebrated big wins in nearly every department. Not only did the Springboks win their second consecutive match in Australia and Dricus du Plessis successfully defended his UFC middle-weight belt – but renowned amapiano DJ, Uncle Waffles made history by becoming the first-ever black woman to headline a show at the Brooklyn Mirage in New York.

The event was one for the history books as she was also the first amapiano artist to perform at the event.

Following what was a successful event the musician whose real name is Lungelihle Zwane took to her Instagram page to share how honoured she was to have been given the privilege.

She wrote: “The first black woman to headline Brooklyn Mirage. The first Piano artist and many more to come! What do I even say? “

Continuing her post she added: “So much to share, thank you, New York, for helping me create history despite the weather. I cannot express how grateful I am. Thank you Amazon Music for helping me share this in the world!”

The Swazi-born artist later shifted her attention to those who have joined her on this journey by thanking the Brooklyn Mirage for choosing her along with her dancers and team who have been putting in the hours to ensure that the event was a success.

Her post meanwhile showcased video snippets to show followers what took place at the event.

At the rate at which things are going for the 24-year-old, it seems like 2024 is her year. This comes as her recent concert was only the second time within a space of a month that she made history as previously was the first amapiano artist to perform at the Wireless Festival in London last month.
