Ukhozi FM presenter and Crown Gospel Awards founder Zanele Mbokazi-Nkambule has died.

Earlier this year, the radio presenter announced that she was diagnosed with lung cancer resulting in some gospel musicians holding a prayer vigil in hopes that she would get better.

At just 52 years old, Zanele lost her battle to cancer. SABC News reported that Zanele was multi-talented as she became a specialist in the events and marketing field. She also graduated with an Honours Degree in Media and Communications from the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN).

Taking to Facebook, her husband Bishop Mpendulo Nkambule, released a statement saying, “It is with heavy hearts that we as the Nkambule and Mbokazi family announce the passing of our dearly beloved Ms Zanele Mbokazi-Nkambule, founder of Crown Gospel Music Awards and UKhozi FM radio personality. She departed to be with the Lord; in the early hours of 12 August 2024, at Parklands Hospital.”

Speaking to the news publication, TshisaLive, her colleague revealed that in April, Zanele had challenges when doing her job at the radio station as she fell ill leading her not to finish hosting her Eshilo show.

The source mentioned above also reported that Zanele’s daughter stated that her mother was hospitalised after undergoing surgery as she had shortness of breath.

South Africa continues to mourn this devasting news with some internet users sending their condolences to these two families.

One user said: “May she rest in peace, she fought so hard.”

Another user commented: “Yes the sickness will bow in JESUS CHRIST’s mighty name.”

Another internet user said: “RIP Ms Zanele Mbokazi.”
