Shortly after featuring possibly the biggest artist of our generation Beyonce, Apple Music is back and will honour afro-soul singer Nomfundo Moh, R&B singers Nanette and Elaine, as well as amapiano DJ sensation Uncle Waffles, as their Alpha females this Women’s month.

The women were specifically chosen because of their massive contributions to not only the music industry and culture, but they are also trailblazers who are breaking barriers and achieving accomplishments in a way that has not been seen before, specifically in South Africa

The artists expressed extreme excitement to be honoured in such a way. They also expressed gratitude to even be considered, specifically by a platform of such magnitude.

“I’m honoured to be featured on Apple Music’s Alpha playlist, especially at such a monumental time for the South African music landscape, and more so the women involved. I represent women who are not afraid to embrace their superpower and vulnerability, as well as those who are still learning what that means.

“This platform not only amplifies our voices as women shaping and influencing the culture in a male-dominated industry but also connects me to the many women I sing and write for,” says Elaine

Nomfundo Moh also voiced similar sentiments, and said “Being an artist is beautiful, but being a female artist is mighty! Not everyone has the ability to break chains that are meant to limit their creativity, only a superhuman can conquer such. It is an honour to be featured on Apple Music’s Alpha campaign, we’re about to break more chains through our music.”

Newcomer Nanette, also expressed what this opportunity means to her as a young woman who was raised predominantly by other strong women. She opens up about how these women shaped the idea of what it means to be a strong woman.

“I’m so honoured to be a part of the Alpha playlist and I’m grateful for the opportunity to be celebrated as a woman and celebrate other phenomenal women too. Growing up in a household of predominantly girls, I was always confident in the strength and tenacity of a woman. My first example of immense strength was my grandmother. She and my mother taught me to take pride in everything it means to be a woman, from vulnerability to adaptability. Women are a force to be reckoned with and I’m glad I get to express my womanhood in its purest form using music.”

Throughout Women’s Month, the Alpha females playlist will be shining a light and empowering the different artists we have. Their stories of womanhood will be highlighted through their music. The playlist comprises various songs that fall under multiple categories and cater to the diverse climate that exists in South Africa.
