‘I used to be against tattoos’- Sbahle Mpisane on covering her body with ink

The well-known South African fitness guru and media personality, Sbahle Mpisane, revealed that she never used to like tattoos, as she speaks of covering her body with ink.

Sbahle used to be adamantly opposed to body art, but she has since changed her mind and is now proud to display the many tattoos that cover her body. “I’d even verbally state that they looked dirty because I was grown up to see ink art as dirt,” she says.

She took to her Instagram account with the caption: “After my car accident, I had scars all over my body and they made me feel dirty. My anger was sky-high because the scars were basically tattoos that I didn’t ask for. To make life easy for myself, I decided to get inked so I could cover my scars bit by bit to clean the dirt. My mum supported my art because she knew that it would give me the peace I needed and boost my dead confidence at the time.”

Sbahle’s fans find inspiration in her decision to embrace tattoos, which encourages them to experiment with their own forms of self-expression, as they took to the comment section:

One user said: “I have one unfinished and won’t go back, it was so painful. I love how you tell your story through art.”

Another user commented: “I was just like you as well until I got this massive burn scar on my thigh that I would like to cover up with a tattoo coz I don’t like it.”
