Internet reacts to boy assaulting his grandmother

A disturbing video that surfaced on social media, showing a young man violently assaulting his elderly grandmother, has sparked widespread outrage and led to the intervention of SAPS.

The video, which quickly went viral, shows the young man standing near a stove hurling insults and physically abusing his grandmother with a pot of pap falling on the floor and the grandmother landing on her knees.

The altercation appeared to be over food, with the elderly woman shouting that the young man was sent to kill her and that he wanted to kill her challenging him to do so in her house.

The footage created a storm of anger and condemnation from the public, with thousands taking to various social media platforms to express their horror and demand justice. Among the prominent voices was Somizi Mhlongo a well-known media personality, who used his social media account to call for the identification and also expressed his concern for the grandmother, stating that she needs counselling to cope with the trauma she endured. Somizi offered his support, saying, “The grandmother is traumatised and needs professional help. I want to assist.”

According to News24, The boy was arrested in Wallacedene on Wednesday night after a video showing him assaulting his elderly grandmother went viral. Western Cape police spokesperson André Traut confirmed the arrest, stating the suspect is scheduled to appear in the Blue Downs Magistrate’s Court.
