Premium food retailer Woolworths Food is on a journey to create proudly South African dishes to preserve our culture and heritage while making things easy for corporate moms and dads to navigate life around the kitchen.

The grocery outlet sells food and now sells food staples such as tripe, amagwinya (fat cakes), samp and beans and koeksisters among its lists of proudly South African dishes. , which were recently introduced.

Woolworths is popular for selling fresh A-grade foods referred to by many as “food that went to a private school.”

The food is usually priced at a higher price than ordinary grocery stores benefiting those with deeper pockets.

Internet users were left with so much to say after Wollies added koeksisters priced at R44.99 to their local foods. on sale.

A koeksister is a traditional Afrikaner sweet goodness made of fried dough infused with syrup or honey.

Taking time to share their new local foods addition, the Woolies TikTok account shared that these were only available in the Western Cape for now.

“@wwtaste NEW at Woolies: koesisters! These treats are available at selected @Woolworths SA stores in the Western Cape. Retailing at R44.99 for a pack.”

Internet users were left with conflicted views while many felt that the food retailer was trying to kill small home business owners who make these goodies at a fraction of their price.

“Woolies are greedy and consuming all of the business from the smaller home industries,” commented one user.

Another user added, “I sell it 3 for R10 but our people will rather support Woolies.”

More added, “I still think the best koeksisters come from the aunty that sells Sunday mornings.”
