North-West pensioners Daniel Madumo and Jeremia Mmatli have died after being arrested for allegedly murdering another pensioner at an old age home in Brits, North West.
As per reports by news publication, The Citizen, Daniel and Jeremia were allegedly charged on counts of murder for Godfrey Motsepe. The news publication states that the untimely death of Godfrey was due to a fight that broke out between the three men.
Speaking on the charges against the two men, police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Amanda Funani said, “According to information, 80-year-old Motsepe was coming out of the bathroom around 04:00 on May 30 and encountered Mmatli and Madumo. The deceased allegedly bumped into one of them who hit him with his crutches. His companion joined in the fight and both assaulted the victim.”
Speaking to entertainment publication ZiMoja, the Department of Correctional Services spokesperson, Singabakho Nxumalo said, “The Department of Correctional Services can confirm the death of 92-year-old, Daniel Madumo. He was charged together with the late Jeremia Mmatli for a case of murder at an old-age home in North West. They were both admitted on 3 June 2024, at Kgosi Mampuru II Correctional Centre in Tshwane.”
Although the suspects were arrested last month they had pending court cases recently but due to them both getting sick and dying the court would provide a way forward in the court case.
