As the country awaits the names of cabinet members of the seventh democratic government administration comprising of members of the Government of National Unity (GNU), rumours stating that mzansi might have to hold re-elections have started surfacing. This comes after the Democratic Alliance (DA) allegedly tabled out demands that the ANC and other political parties who are members of the GNU do not agree with.

Members of the GNU include the United Democratic Movement (UDM), Patriotic Alliance (PA), Pan Africanist Congress (PAC), African National Congress (ANC),  Freedom Front Plus (FF+), Democratic Alliance (DA), Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP), RISE Mzansi, GOOD and Al-Jamah-Ah.

In an article by news publication TimesLive, it is reported that the DA wants party leader John Steinhuisen elected as the Deputy President of the Republic of South Africa, furthermore, the party has also asked for 10 of their members to be placed in key economic portfolio in the soon to be announced cabinet.

On X (former Twitter) recently, media personality Sizwe Dhlomo who has been vocal on matters relating to the GNU recently left many internet users with much to say when he wrote that he heard we might have to hold elections again.

“Hhe madoda! Nakhu ngizwa amahem-hem engathi siyofola futhi? Lol! Ngeke! Awema! (No man! I’m hearing rumours that we might have to endure long queues again).”

Internet users took time to comment:

That would be a good thing for this country.
If we go back to voting, ANC and DA will go below 20% unless they rig votes again

One user was not happy with the news commenting:

Haaibo… They’ll mark me absent. I’m not doing this again ?

Another user noted:

DA and ANC will see flames ??

Unimpressed by the DA’s cabinet demands one user commented:

But a 20% party can’t make us run around to go for a rerun. Aowa. Khongolose must just swallow their pride and negotiate hard with their fellow freedom fighter parties ??‍♂️
