The last 12 months have seen several top South African musical personalities dying down on their musical highs to deepen their spiritual faith.

Two of the most notable high-profile musicians include award-winning rapper Cassper Nyovest who is unapologetic about becoming a renewed man, as well as Black Coffee who made headlines earlier this year after footage circulated on social media showing the Grammy Award winning DJ moving finding his way to the pulpit in a packed-out church service.

One of the most recent musicians who completely opened up about her faith is DJ Hazel Kotu.

This past Wednesday she celebrated 12 months of abstinence form all forms of sexual activity.

May 2024 marks 12 months since I decided to abstain from any form of sexual activity, honestly one of the best decisions I’ve made for myself (highly recommend this). Mwah, love and light. pic.twitter.com/4cZwRT2Ajo

Speaking about the experience she told the news and entertainment publication Daily Sun that this was a religious decision which made the commitment easy to her.

She explained that when she initially made the decision to start this journey, she was single at the time. But as the months passed by, she had two failed relationships that ended at the talking stage because of her commitment.

In her interview with the above-mentioned publication, she explained:

“Sex was made for marriage. Unfortunately, people go with the ways of the world. Casual sex and infidelity are a normal part of society, I wanted something different.”

She admits that prior to starting the journey she found herself being slightly hesitant because of the fear of the unknown, but now says that she feels much better than ever before.

“My life hasn’t been the same since. I’m grateful.”
