Itumeleng Khune to be honoured for 25 year career at Kaizer Chiefs

After more than two decades of making his appearances in the gold and black colours of the Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs, veteran goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune will be honoured for his years of service with his long-time club this coming Saturday.

With a 25-year history between him and Kaizer Chiefs, Itumeleng has become one of the core pillars of the team and was part of several milestone moments that brought Amakhosi to the powerhouse it has become.

Recently the club took to social media to share that the team will be playing their final home match this coming Saturday when Kaizer Chiefs takes on Polokwane City FC.

In a public statement they further stated:

“Khune, a stalwart of South African football, has been a pillar of strength for Kaizer Chiefs for over two decades, having arrived as a youngster from Ventersdorp, in the North West, back in 1999.

“Known for his exceptional goalkeeping skills and leadership on and off the field, Khune started in the Kaizer Chiefs Youth Development Academy before being promoted to the senior team at the start of the 2004/05 season.

“Khune spent five years in the youth structures and is currently in his record-setting 20th season with the senior team,” the statement ended.

Earlier this year Khune made a big return to the club following months of being side-lined due to suspension for arriving to training under the influence of alcohol.

This saw him lose both his captaincy as well as his spot in the starting 11.

Meanwhile, the club showed its loyalty by offering their veteran goalkeeper by offering rehabilitation classes.
