Everybody loves themselves a bargain. And now that local retailers have to compete with the likes of international fast fashion brands like Shein and Temu, the stakes are much higher.

You might have seen those annoying Temu ads all over your feed about discounts and flash sales, but do you pay attention?

One TikToker did her due diligence and shared her plug with fellow online users. @tannibeauty_ explained that if you type in a certain code into the app’s search box, you will get a list of all the items that are 90% off the original price.

Even though the video was a paid post, the influencer sweetened the deal with a further 30% off by using her coupon code at checkout.

@tannibeauty_ 🎁🔍Search *dkh5497* on Temu to grab the amazing TEMU tools for 90% off, and use code【aci596859】to gain $100 coupon bundle and an extra 30% off (for new app users). ✨ #temu #temufinds #temucode #tannibeauty_ #thirtydayscontent ♬ original sound – Ms. Tatiana🤎

The post gained over 9K likes, while its intended message hit home; clever marketing on Temu’s part, considering the amount of comments attached.

The marketplace platform is facing a potential crackdown in South Africa after allegations surfaced that it and Shein are bypassing loopholes to avoid paying full customs duties on imports, My Broadband reported.

Temu was also hit with a European Union complaint, according to Reuters. Pan-European consumer group BEUC said the PDD Group-owned PDD.O unit might have breached online content rules.

“Temu is being complacent here because it is breaching the EU’s Digital Services Act,” BEUC Director General Monique Goyens said in a statement.

“Products sold on marketplaces, whether online or offline, whether they are European, American or Chinese, must be safe and comply with European law if they sell to European consumers.”
