Adding plants to your bathroom can make it feel cosy and refreshing. Bathrooms usually have higher humidity levels, which many plants love.

Here, we’ll talk about five plants that are perfect for bathrooms, whether your bathroom gets lots of natural light or is a bit darker.

Plants that will thrive in your bathroom

1. Calathea and Marantha Family (Prayer Plant Family)

These plants are great for bathrooms with medium to well-lit conditions, especially if they get some morning sunlight through a frosted window. Calathea and Marantha plants are used to growing in the shady jungle, so they thrive in high humidity. They add colour and patterns to your bathroom, making it look lively.

2. Palms

Palms are essential for creating a tropical vibe in your bathroom. They love the humidity, so they’ll do well near your shower or bath. Palms grow tall and make a statement, providing a nice backdrop for smaller plants.

3. Monstera Deliciosa

If your bathroom gets decent light, the Delicious Monster is a perfect choice. It brings a tropical feel and can handle the high humidity of bathrooms without any problems. Plus, it’s low-maintenance, making it ideal for busy folks.

4. Heartleaf Philodendron & Pothos (Devil’s Ivy)

These plants are hardy and can tolerate various conditions, making them perfect for bathrooms with less light. They trail beautifully and can be hung creatively to add greenery to your space.

5. Ferns

Ferns are classic bathroom plants loved for their delicate appearance and ability to soften the edges of your space. They thrive in high humidity and average lighting, making them a perfect fit for most bathrooms.

Must-have ferns for your bathroom:

  • Autumn Fern: Adds contrast with its bronze young fronds and tolerates different lighting conditions.
  • Macho Fern: This creates a lush canopy above your bath or shower and is very hardy.
  • Birds Nest Fern ‘Crissie’: Adds depth and quirkiness to your space and thrives in high humidity.

By adding these plants to your bathroom, you can create a peaceful oasis to relax in after a long day. Just make sure to choose plants that can handle high humidity and fluctuating temperatures, and match them with the lighting conditions in your bathroom. With a bit of care, your bathroom can become a green sanctuary.
