The news that multi-award-winning singer Lerato “Lira” Molapo has endorsed and is a member of the Jacob Zuma led, newly formed uMkhonto Wesizwe party has surfaced on the internet, forcing the singer to clarify the rumours.
The singer who recently embarked on her first stage performance after suffering a stroke in Germany two years ago came across posts claiming that she had joined the MK party. On TikTok, a video of the singer with her head wrapped in MK green was also seen.
Clearly a misrepresentation of the singer’s political stance that aims to influence some of her followers, the singer shared the picture on her social media.
Clarifying the rumours, Lira shared, “I wish to confirm that I have no affiliation with MK Party. I have not endorsed them or become an MKP member. Any information to the contrary is fake news and I am exploring my legal options about the unlawful use of my image and name.”

One user warned the Feel Good hitmaker about MK commenting:
These thugs steal everything. Now that you have confirmed you not part of the criminal MK Party, they are going to start attacking u viciously. They will make up dozens of fake stories against you. They will also mysteriously find your name on some so called CR bank statements.
