It is often said that music is a universal language, and one Asian lady has proven this statement to certainly be true.

A video of a woman who goes by the TikTok handle @Shansahan_in_sa has certainly won the favour of thousands of South Africans as she posts several videos of herself hoping onto one of the world’s newest popular music genres – amapiano.

Amapiano is a Nguni word loosely translated to “the pianos”.

Known to get people expressing themselves on the dance floor, the genre is a subgenre of house music that emerged in South Africa in the mid-2010s.

It is also a hybrid of deep house, jazz, and lounge music characterized by synths and wide, percussive basslines.

Taking to her own TikTok page Shanshan impressed many people by delivering her rendition of some of the genre’s biggest hits such as Kabza De Small’s Imithandazo, as well as Imnadi Lento which is sung and produced by well known artists such as Mellow and Sleazy, Sjava da DeeJay, and TitoM.

Videos of the content creator shows her mastering many of these big hits while nailing the lyrics word for word despite it not being in her mother tongue.

Meanwhile, this proved to be more than enough to impress the rest of mzansi as thousands reacted to her content with many commenting by sending music requests of their own.

Taking to the comment section, one person wrote: “From today onwards, your name is Lerato Mashaba.”

Another wrote: “Come get your citizenship my sister.”

Meanwhile, it is not only her musical attempts that are gaining attention, but the much loved TikToker has immersed herself in the culture as well as food, by trying some cuisines in the form of bunny chows as well as shisanyama.
