Accusations and disses: Ntsiki Mazwai and DJ Shimza argue online

While Tyla’s Grammy win is a win for South Africa too, poet Ntsiki Mazwai had other thoughts on how the singer received her win which ultimately resulted in a war of words between herself and producer DJ Shimza.

The outspoken Ntsiki suggested on X (formerly known as Twitter) that Tyla is an industry plant (an artist who presents themselves as independent, however, behind the scenes, they have financial support from corporations, explains music publication Loud and Quiet).

“I’m worried ukuthi what is the West up to? This is a lot of SA PR [public relations] and we love Tyla, but Katt Williams was right, some are plants.”

I’m worried ukuthi what is the west up to….this is a lot of SA PR…and we love Tyla but Katt Williams was right….some are plants. https://t.co/GPlRIkYz7t

In response to Ntsiki’s comment, DJ Shimza posted the following:

Ai… https://t.co/uzWA2CGL8N pic.twitter.com/kgRQtMx4eY

— SHIMZA (@Shimza01) February 5, 2024

This then led to a back-and-forth between the two personalities, with Ntsiki accusing DJ Shimza of being funded by the African National Congress (ANC), not having any hit songs and sleeping his way to the top.

See some of the exchanges below.

No….not you. You are literally funded by ANC with zero hit songs just a good hook up but they don’t call it couch casting when it’s men

Not you houseboy. No. https://t.co/xLoIZmYmwE
