A short clip of Themba “DJ Maphorisa” Sekowe’s interview with Manchester’s Pie radio presenter recently surfaced on X, formerly known as Twitter, where the multi hitmaker detailed how his love for amapiano sound came about.

Amapiano is a unique sound that infuses house music with the African sound with a piano influence.

Detailing how the music genre stole his heart, the deejay expressed that it was after he saw Wizkid’s reaction to amapiano that he started paying attention to it.

“Amapiano was kind’a like an underground movement in South Africa, I had a booking in Pretoria and so we (Wizkid) went together there. When I finished deejaying, the deejay started playing amapiano.”

The multi-hit making producer added that when amapiano songs started playing, the Nigerian superstar who has collaborated with international superstars like Beyonce and Drake started having goosebumps:

“He was telling me, what’s this sound. We need to be in this vibe.”

The Izolo hitmaker further shared that after his conversation with Wizkid he started doing research about the amapiano deejays and learning the sound. He also acknowledged Wizkid as the person who kick started his amapiano journey, adding:

“I even say that Wizkid put me on amapiano because it was a sound that was underground and mostly instrumentals or the guys would just remix, take a popular song and just remix it.

Madumana as he is passionately called by his fans also shared that while further researching about amapiano interest, he started meeting amapiano deejays like Kabza de Small.

He expressed the importance of listening attentively adding that his breakthrough to the amapiano sound was because he listened and saw the reaction Wizkid had when he heard the sound.
