How angry parenting can affect your child

Parenting is one of the most precious gifts that life affords us. As a parent, you get to witness the little person you created transform into a full human being right in front of your eyes, a sight that cannot be traded for anything in the world.

As precious as parenting is, parents sometimes harm their children when suffering from the angry parent syndrome. This is when parents take their anger off their kids for even the smallest mistake they make. This may be detrimental to a child’s life as it may end up in trauma that can later manifest itself differently as they grow older. For most individuals, that trauma carries on into adulthood.

Depending on the level of anger, parent rage can sometimes be abusive towards a child. According to Parenting For Brain, an information site that offers science-backed parenting advice, angry parenting behaviour “can hurt the child’s self-esteem, potentially causing them to develop feelings of low self-worth.”

A constant state of anger is not good for both the child and the parent, shares FHE Health Restore, a Florida based healthcare institution. The information hub also adds that parents’ continuous excessive anger can lead to “children having difficulties concentrating, developing social issues and having trouble playing with others, becoming quiet and fearful, rude or aggressive, developing sleeping problems and becoming less empathetic to others.”

This can be corrected if a parent shows willingness to change, committing to working towards the issues that lead to his/her anger in the first place.
