Publishers allegedly lining up for Oscar Pistorius memoir

It has only been a couple of days since his release and book publishers are kneeling before former South African paralympian Oscar Pistorius.

The 37-year-old was released on parole this past Friday, 5 January after spending nearly a decade in prison for the killing of his late girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp.

Reeva, who briefly dated the world-renowned athlete in 2013 was shot dead in the early hours of Valentine’s Day because of a mistaken identity, after Oscar allegedly assumed that intruders entered his Pretoria home – and fired several shots at the then 29-year-old.

Now that Oscar has returned home and is living with his uncle Arnold Pistorius, UK-based publication The Sun has revealed that Oscar has once again become hot property.

This comes after news emerged that he had been keeping himself busy in jail by writing a memoir.

“Oscar spent a lot of time writing. Some prisoners do this to show the parole board that they have accepted what they have done. There are already a lot of interested publishers,” a close family source told the publication.

According to another UK-based publication Daily Mail, sources revealed that the possibility of publishing a book and profiting from it is not something that the Steenkamp family would be too happy about, and this might just add to their grief.

Meanwhile, publishers told The Sun that they believe that this memoir could generate lots of money, and potentially be turned into a film.

The Sun also reported that there is £1 million (R23 millon) is on offer for the tell-all book.
