Today marks seven days since the multi-award-winning global sensation Bulelwa Mkutukana, better known as Zahara, left this this earth due to liver complications.

Since her death, many industry friends have shared how they failed the singer multiple times when they could see that she needed help. One celebrity who was among the first to publicly own up to the neglect was flamboyant media personality Somizi Mhlongo.

Somizi not only owned neglecting the Loliwe hitmaker by being occupied with other things while knowing the singer needed help, he also owned up to a joke he made while presenting at the SAMAS, where he said, “Where’s Zahara, she’s probably at the bar already.”

Speaking at Zahara’s memorial service, Somizi shared that he knew Zahara would be a big star the first time he saw her. He also narrated a story of how he kept on tipping Zahara to play a certain part of Loliwe in East London, as that caught his attention. He ended off saying if he was a big shot music producer, he would have signed Zahara right there and then.

Seeing an old video of Zahara’s interview with media personality Anele Mdoda circulating on the internet, Somizi shared it with his five millions Instagram followers.

In the interview, while speaking to Anele, Zahara shared:

“Aba understandi uba mna bendihamba ngeenyawo, baefoot, ndihambe ndidlal’ikatari ndibeke umnqwazi babeke (they don’t understand that I used to walk barefoot playing guitar and my hat and they would put their) R2. The first person owakhe wabeka imali eliphepha (to ever give me paper money) was Somizi, he did not even know me. Wabek’iphepha esogqiba sathi khayiphinde lengoma ndaqond’ba yhoo ndizoyiphinda kanene (he placed paper money and said please repeat this song, I was like there’s no way I’m not repeating it).

Seeing the video for the first time, Somizi shared it and captioned his post:

“Wow Zee. Cant believe I’m seeing this for the first time. And you are gone. But definitely never be forgotten.”
