Springbok Ox gets highest honours in Thaba Nchu

by Sergio Miller

Following the conclusion of the Springbok victory parade, Springbok players Damian Willemse, Canan Moody, Manie Libbok and Cheslin Kolbe all returned to their childhood communities as a way of showing appreciation to some of their most loyal supporters.

This past week it was World Cup winning prop Ox Nche’s turn.

The world champion received a heroic welcome from young and old as he returned to his hometown in the Free State province.

The 28-year-old played an important part in securing the Springboks an opportunity to competing in the final by coming on from the bench in the semi-final against England and dominating the scrum to turn the scoreboard from 15 -6, to 15 -16 in favor of the world champs.

This was enough to impress the people from his hometown who quickly put preparations in place for a private tour.

Upon returning home to Mokwena in Thaba Nchu, Nche was given the Tlotlo ya Morafe wa Barolong-Boo-Seleka (the Honour of the Nation) from Kgosi Gaboilelwe Moroka.

It is an honor granted to esteemed individuals who stand out for their exceptional achievements in their field and have served the nation and the interests of our country to the best of their abilities.

On conversation with SABC news Ox said: “I feel honoured and this should be an inspiration to everyone that it is possible.”
