Beast made his provincial debut for the Cell C Sharks in 2006, and two years later gained his Springbok cap. From there, Beast went onto a greater scene as he took to the international scenes of the rugby world.

His retirement came as a shock to many as he had announced it a few days after being part of the squad that secured the Web Ellis Cup in 2019. His plans for his retirement included furthering his studies, working on his foundation – The Beast Foundation – and simply working on his legacy.
