Rugby World Cup: Fan parks in Cape Town and Joburg

In a famous speech said at the inaugural Laureus World Sports Awards in the year 2000, our former president Nelson Mandela once said:

“Sport has the power to change the world. It has the power to inspire. It has the power to unite people in a way that little else does and it speaks to youth in a language they understand.”

Over the years this phrase has proven to be true – especially when it comes to the national teams that represent our beautiful nation.

Meanwhile, it is therefore important to honour the ambassadors of our country, and what better way to do this than to support them together.

For this reason, both the City of Cape Town and Joburg have decided to bring the nation together with the setting up of fan parks where South Africans can watch the final while donning the green and gold.

On Wednesday 25th October Cape Town mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis announced the setting up of three official Fan Parks in various communities across the city.

These areas include the Cape Town’s Bree Street in the CBD, Monwabisi Sport and Recreational Centre in Langa and Westridge Civic Centre in Mitchell’s Plain.

“The city will host fan parks to watch the RWC final in the CBD, Langa and Mitchell’s Plain, where we can go back to the Bokke together! ???” he wrote.

Locals are encouraged to come and watch the game live on the big screen while enjoying the music presented by a live DJ.

Meanwhile, Joburgers are in for a Bok treat as well…

Several malls across the city have been identified as the perfect place to cheer on our boys.

According to the city’s tourism website, Joburg.co.za, Melrose Arch, Wonderpark Shopping Centre and Clubhouse Grill have all been made available for locals to attend.
