Former Miss South Africa, Cindy Nell-Roberts, was among the six people injured when a truck crashed into several vehicles before it overturned on Kloof Nek Road in Cape Town.

The incident has also seen the SAPS register a case of reckless and negligent driving after the truck lost control in the CBD on Tuesday.

Police spokesperson Wesley Twigg said the crash was reported at about 10.15am on Kloof Nek Road.

“Cape Town Central police registered a reckless and negligent driving case for investigation following a crash on Tuesday morning on Kloof Nek Road involving a truck and five vehicles,” said the SAPS spokesperson.

“The circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation.”

The former beauty queen, TV presenter and CEO of cosmetic group Cometix was on her way to the Foreshore to film a programme for ViaTV.

Talking to News24 from the hospital, Nell-Roberts said she was “traumatised but fine” after her vehicle was “dragged for 100 meters and spun out of control.”

Shortly after the incident, Mayco member for safety and security, JP Smith, confirmed that the truck driver was among those injured.

“Motorists are requested to seek alternative routes and avoid the area until the scene has been cleared,” Smith said, adding that road closures were in place.

By late afternoon, Kloof Nek Road and Ethan Street were still closed as emergency personnel cleared the wreckage.
