Kwaito legend Bonginkosi Dlamini, famously known as Zola7, had to change his social media accounts after someone pretended to be him asking for money.

According to The Citizen, Zola7’s new management team, Untamed Communications, gave the old team until this Friday to close the old accounts while also advising Zola7’s followers to unfollow the star on Facebook and Instagram.

The above-mentioned publication explains that the team relaunched the media personality’s social media pages after they were alerted that someone cloned Zola7’s cell phone number and swindled event organisers and others who planned to work with him. At least R35 000 was demanded by the imposter.

Zola7’s manager Siki Kunene told The Citizen that last March someone tried to impersonate the Lwandle hitmaker and cloned his WhatsApp.

“We went to Vodacom to block the number; they did that but couldn’t block the number on WhatsApp. This person has been taking bookings, money in Zola’s name and people ask Zola when they see him, why he doesn’t show up to events [he was booked for]. It’s tarnishing his brand,” said Siki.

Sharing that they hired a private investigator, Siki continued, “We went to the police station but the police told us we couldn’t open a case because we weren’t the ones being defrauded.”

One event organiser had even opened a case in Krugersdorp in April, while another in Germiston reported the fraud to the police in July.

He added, “Feedback from the private investigator is that they’ve been able to trace this person, we should be finding him soon.”
