Kwaito legend Zola 7 has opened up about being in a coma for five weeks due to epilepsy.

During an interview on the Touch Down on Metro FM, the musician revealed that he was nearly on the brink of death in March of last year.

“It is because of the millions of prayers. People who called, came to my gate. People were leaving candles at my gate. I thought I’d get a second chance. You feel no pain, even if you were to pinch me, I feel nothing. At that time, I was mostly having a conversation with my grandmother who died in 1993. Then she says, ‘No, you need to go back,’” he said.

“So I woke up, hearing the nurses and smelling I was in hospital. Now I’m back this side, so there’s a reason I’m here.”

According to The South African, Zola 7 had previously shared his experiences with epilepsy. The musician told MacG on Podcast and Chill that he had been battling the condition since 2018. He now takes medication daily to help him with the illness.

He also spoke about how much weight he’s lost due to epilepsy. Opening up to ZiMoja, he spoke about his five week coma experience, saying he almost didn’t make it. “I could say that I rose from the dead. I almost didn’t make it. I almost kicked the bucket.”

He then added that the medication has been helping him a lot, stating: “The medication is treating me well. I’m trying to eat right. I take 200 mg of medication in the morning and in the evening, so it’s heavy.”
