The Funny Chef has opened up about why she was fired as the host of Our Perfect Wedding.

During a recent Popcorn and Cheese interview with Mpho Popps and Robot Boii, the actress and TV personality talked about losing the OPW gig.

When she worked at weddings in KwaZulu-Natal, she admitted on the show that she sought to keep her job by speaking isiZulu. She says that her coworkers were considerate enough to let her know what was going on.

“They told me viewers are not happy, and if they are not happy, the channel is not going to be happy… Which was fair. I just didn’t expect it so soon because I was trying.

“Then I get a call saying – ‘We are going to let you go. Thank you very much for contributing’… Then, the hate started coming up,” she said.

She continues by adding that she heard people saying that she was overweight and unable to dress, which led her to suffer from depression for four months. She also revealed that she was unable to leave her house or interact with anyone.

“I was broken, and I was depressed for four months. I didn’t want to leave the house or talk to anybody. My mom was worried that I was going to [kill] myself,” said The Funny Chef.

The comedian added that while she was dealing with losing her job, campaigns also started pulling out.
