Celebrity chef and TV host Siba Mtongana shared a precious moment of her four children trying mopane worms for the first time.

Mopane worms – also referred to as madora, amacimbi or masontja – are large, edible caterpillars native to the warmer parts of southern Africa. It can either be eaten raw, fried or added to stews and broths.

Sharing the video on her Instagram page, the restauranteur captioned the post, “On our family holiday we also spent some time in Limpopo and did some foodie adventures. We bought a lot of local ingredients to explore back home. Now introducing #TheSquad to indigenous ingredients and flavours from other cultures in South Africa. Here’s their reaction to trying mopane worms for the very first time back home! Enjoy! ?.”

The mom of four showed much patience when questioned about the taste of the mopane worms, even reassuring her son Linamandla that the food “is not creepy.”

Siba is also heard saying, “If you can eat prawns, you can eat this one.”

Commenting on her post, Siba wrote about one of her daughters, “Buhle is praying as she understands that prayer is about asking the heavens to intervene on earthly matters?????❤️.”

“This made my day ????… the reaction when the worm broke ?!” wrote one Instagram user.

Another user commented, “‘I’m very very scared’ in Lina’s voice??? ‘Is this the eye?? Is this the butt?’???eyi I’m finished, watched this over and over, this is just so beautiful @sibamtongana. I will also gather some courage and say a little prayer like sista Buhle for divine intervention because wow, those things look ‘creepy’ as Lina said??.”
