On the latest episode of The Masked Singer South Africa, it was revealed that award-winning comedian David Kau was the Hippo. It came as a surprise to many, even the show’s host Mpho Popps.
According to Sowetan Live, only David’s wife, Thalia Kau, knew about his participation in the show. “…[N]o one else outside of her knew because I was not allowed to speak about my involvement with the show with anyone or hint any secrecy around the show.”
David’s kids were also oblivious about his involvement. Their reactions to their father being unmasked was captured by their mother.

“My most memorable moment was seeing the look on Mpho Popps and Skhumba’s faces because they couldn’t believe they didn’t guess it was me. They were also impressed at how I could hide my identity so well,” said David, according to Sowetan Live.
“I enjoyed being in disguise as the Hippo. I don’t know how I ended up with the Hippo but I am glad that it all ended perfectly for me.”
