The amazing benefits of watermelon

A refreshing snack, watermelons are rich in a variety of vitamins and antioxidants. The fruit has been enjoyed for thousands of years, with seeds being found in a Libyan settlement built 5000 years ago.

Read below the health benefits this fruit possesses, as explained by WebMD.

Protects the joints

The fruit contains a natural pigment called beta-cryptoxanthin that may defend your joints from inflammation. According to some studies, over time, consuming watermelon could make you less likely to get rheumatoid arthritis.

Soothes the skin

The vitamins found in watermelons that can help your skin to stay smooth and supple include the following: Vitamins A, vitamin B6, and vitamin C. Because it contains 92% water, watermelons also make for a great face mask.

“Mix 1 tablespoon of watermelon juice with the same amount of Greek yogurt. Spread over your face and leave on for 10 minutes to slough off any dry, dull skin. Rinse and pat dry,” says WebMD.

Good for the heart

Watermelons are rich in an amino acid called citrulline. This may help move blood through your body, and can lower your blood pressure. Watermelons also contain the antioxidant lycopene. Studies have shown that it may lower your risk of heart attacks.

Healthy sweets alternative

Instead of opting for a cup of ice-cream as a sweet treat (which will set you back about 300 calories), rather go for watermelon for just 45.6 calories. Watermelons are also fat-free, cholesterol-free, and sodium-free. As an added bonus, the water in this fruit will help you stay fuller for longer.
