Fans are not so thrilled with Trevor Noah’s new hosting gig

by Johana Mukandila

The South African comedian Trevor Noah has bagged a hosting gig titled LOL: Last One Laughing. The show, a Prime Video’s first South African original, will feature ten upcoming comedians who will be competing for a grand prize of R1 million to donate to charity.

LOL: Last One Laughing series is part of Prime Video’s franchise and is produced in more than 20 countries including Australia and Germany.

According to Entertainment commentator Phil Mphela, the show is scheduled to premiere in South Africa and globally early next year.

“TV: Trevor Noah to host new show. Noah will host Prime Video’s first South African Original called  LOL: Last One Laughing. 10 comedians compete for R1 million grand prize for charity. The show is set to launch in South Africa and globally early next year,” Phil tweeded.

Many South Africans were however not so thrilled with giving away the grand prize of R1 million to charity pointing out that people in the entertainment industry were also financially struggling.

“This would have been great if it was a straight up competition for up-and-coming comedians and the R1-million goes to the winner. Imagine, @PrimeVideoZA and @Trevornoah changing a comedian’s life … Not like they making millions over here,” Phil wrote.

Will it be South African comedians?

If yes, why for charity? Most seem to have struggled to recover post-Covid ☹️
