Skin hydration hacks for winter

As the chill of the cooler months begins to set in, it’s important to start thinking about keeping your skin healthy and hydrated. Dry air and cold weather can wreak havoc on your skin – dryness, flakiness, and itching are all vying to enter the chat.

Fortunately, with a few simple tips and tricks, you can keep your skin looking and feeling its best right until summer greets again. Here’s what you can do:

Hydrate from the inside, out!

You don’t need us to tell you, but drinking plenty of water is crucial for keeping your skin hydrated and healthy. If 8 glasses of water a day is a tall order, try your best to hydrate when you can. If it’s with a cup of herbal tea, that’s even better.

When you’re eating for healthy skin, foods like avocados, nuts, and leafy greens are great for keeping you smooth, supple, hydrated. Make some space on your plate for these essentials, and your skin will thank you.

At-home remedies will become your bestie

When it comes to at-home skincare hacks, there are plenty of options to choose from.

One of the most popular hacks is to keep a humidifier in your home – I like keeping one in the bedroom. A humidifier adds a bit of moisture to the air, which can help prevent your skin from becoming dry and cracked. It can also help reduce your chances of getting sick, as dry air can lead to respiratory issues.

Another at-home hack we love is a good face mask! There are plenty of DIY face masks you can make at home using natural ingredients like honey, yogurt, and oatmeal. These masks can help hydrate your skin and provide a range of other benefits, depending on the ingredients you choose. It’s all in the ingredients!

Consider using these skincare goodies

There are oodles of skincare products on the market that are designed specifically to hydrate and nourish the skin.

Look for products that contain ingredients like hyaluronic acid, glycerin, and ceramides. These ingredients help to lock in moisture and prevent your skin from becoming dry and irritated.

One of my personal faves is Klairs’ Supple Preparation Facial Toner. It hydrates and balances the skin’s pH level, which creates the perfect canvas for the rest of your skincare.

Another goodie to add to your cart would be Standard Beauty’s Hyaluronic Acid 1,5% & Peptides Serum, it soothes and hydrates, and works perfectly in conjunction with a Vitamin C serum if you’re looking to really improve your hydration.

Finally, don’t forget to protect your skin from the sun, even during the winter months. UV rays can still damage your skin, even on cloudy days. Look for a moisturiser that contains SPF, or layer a separate sunscreen over your moisturiser to keep your skin protected. In my opinion, Heliocare’s gel-based SPF is the holy grail of holy grails.

So, stock up on water, healthy foods, and your skincare essentials, and get ready to brace the cold weather with flawless, hydrated skin.
