Signs you might be a bad friend

Good friendships should be based on support, respect and trustworthiness. These factors should be mutual in any relationship.

The keyword being “mutual.”

Sometimes, you can be all caught up in your own world that you do not even realise that you are not giving what needs to be given.

HuffPost provides 4 signs to give you an “ah-ha” moment that you might be the bad friend in your friendship.

It’s all about you, you, you

Stop hijacking your friends’ conversations. Instead, allow them to share their story, listen and maintain eye contact.

You are always backing out of plans you were committed to

Sure, there is a reason for not attending certain events. However, making it a habit of saying “yes” when you actually meant “no” is quite inconsiderate. It is always best to be honest and tell your friends that you are not feeling up for whatever has been planned.

You don’t make an effort to respect their boundaries

Listen to your friends and respect their needs. If they tell you they cannot afford to go shopping with you or they do not want to share information about a touchy subject… leave them be! Be supportive instead of pushy.

You never initiate plans or check in first

Your friendship should not be one-sided. Yes, your friends might like to take over plans or seem like a strong individual, but it is important that you contribute or call to see how they are doing.

Remember, communication is key.
