Upbringing

I grew up in Soweto Jabavhu. I was raised by my great grandmother. She was an amazing woman; she taught me how to love and to be strong in my own self. That is why I am so strict about who I am. I love the valuable lessons she taught me. She taught me how to be a lady, I never swear, this is who I was when I started and this is who I am growing to be in this industry. I had a very humbling childhood and I am very appreciative of it.

Breaking in the industry

There was a lady called Isabella from Moja Movie Factory. I call her mama Isabella. She gave me my first audition and first job on Mtunzini .com in 2005. But I was about five or six years when fell in love with acting. When Sarafina, the movie, came out, I was sold, the acting bug bit hard. After that I was Sarafina everywhere, I would call people around the house, they would sit on the stoop and I would perform Sarafina.

Keeping my relationship private

For me, all my relationships have always been very private, because they are mine. If it was a relationship on screen the public would own it but ours is not. I believe that a relationship, whether till death do us part or we part due to circumstances, shouldn’t have too many elements and people involved. Too many voices and opinions in a relationship make you forget who owns the relationship. That is why I choose to not involve people.

Best advice I’ve received

It would have to be one I discovered myself and that’s do me! Things take longer in the arts industry when you stay true to yourself but they happen tastefully and for the long run work at your best interest.

Fame changed me a bit, it actually grounded me, funny I know. But you learn to respect people in true understanding that they are the ones who in essence make u a success. Creating lasting relationships with your fans creates extended families rather than just admirers.
