Foods to boost your immune system

Winter is fast approaching and with it comes the risk of several illnesses and infections.

That said, it is important to stay on top of your health and fitness game, while giving your body the best of foods and fruits that help boost immunity.

According to Everyday Health, eating foods that support your immune system is important for several reasons, for example it can protect you against illness, your immune system is responsible for fighting off infections and illnesses, so supporting it with nutrient-rich foods can help protect you from getting sick. It can also help you recover quicker, if you do get sick, a strong immune system can help you recover more quickly and reduce the severity of your symptoms.

In no particular order, here are some foods that may help boost your immune system by Healthline:

  1. Citrus fruits: Citrus fruits like oranges, lemons, limes, and grapefruits are high in vitamin C, which are known to support immune function.
  2. Berries: Berries such as strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries are high in antioxidants, which can help protect against free radical damage and support immune function.
  3. Garlic: Garlic is known for its immune-boosting properties, thanks to its high levels of sulphur-containing compounds.
  4. Green leafy vegetables: Green leafy vegetables such as spinach, kale, and broccoli are high in vitamins A, C, and E, are known to support immune function.
  5. Nuts and seeds: Nuts and seeds like almonds, walnuts, and sunflower seeds are high in vitamin E, which is an antioxidant that may help support immune function.
  6. Yogurt: Yogurt contains probiotics, which are beneficial bacteria that can help support immune function.
  7. Chicken soup: Chicken soup is a classic home remedy for colds and flu, and it may actually have immune-boosting properties due to the presence of amino acids and other nutrient
