How to recharge effectively over the weekend

by Ncumisa Lerato Kunana

Friday is a long-awaited day for most people. This is a day that you want to finish working earlier to catch up with the weekend. While you may want to have fun all weekend long, it is imperative to consider recharging for next week’s work. Here are several tips to recharge after work and on weekends:

Catch up on sleep

Your feelings of fatigue, worry, and tension are probably the result of inadequate sleep. Take advantage of the weekend to catch up on sleep and recharge. Use your additional weekend time to catch up on sleep so that you can start the week feeling refreshed. Lack of sleep has been linked to everything from increased stress and anxiety to obesity.

Limit screen time

Turning off everything, such as not using social media or cell phones on Sunday, may be quite restorative, according to Andrea Petersen, author of On Edge, a memoir about her own anxiety. According to studies, spending too much time in front of the screen causes tension, anxiety, and sadness. To properly distress, it’s vital to disengage from screens, especially your phone.

Exercise

Although it may be tempting to spend the entire weekend watching television, getting some exercise will really help you decompress and reduce stress. Aerobic exercise “has a unique power to exhilarate and relax, to bring excitement and calm, to battle depression and dissipate stress,” according to Harvard Medical School.

Applying the tips above can help you manage your weekend activities effectively and get recharged and ready for the following week’s work.
